A Song or Elegy, I can’t yet tell. By Richard Williamson Artists, poets, musicians, lend me your ears,The time has come to bellow, feel the call of the mutineer, grab your brush, your pen, your cello. We pledged allegiance to the flag,It was justice and liberty for all,now those vows are being dragged through dust and blood, a call. I wept this week with Carney’s speech,O captain - our pain laid bare, nostalgia may not be a strategy, but its torch is ours to bear. Let’s hear Frederick Douglas fire,Dylan’s truth and Nina’s scream,Sing me Rockwell’s poignant choir, and Emerson’s lost dream. As troops march to a drummers beat, our souls move to what’s right,Sound the trumpet, feel the heat,do not go gentle into that dark night. So paint, then write, then sing, then cry,let laggard tongues awake, for well-remembered halcyon skies, teach our night to pray. It’s history that’s watching still,And time will name our part; Not by the force of iron will,But by the courage of our hearts. When I woke up and saw more bullies turning the America I have loved into something ugly, I felt the call to add my voice to the chorus of those who sing for innocence. #alexpretti #reneegood
