Day 10: This one was a very close tie with How Soon Is Now- but trying to post just one song by each artist as I adore more than 30.
Bigmouth Strikes Again by The Smiths, from the 1986 LP The Queen Is Dead.

This is a fantastic version as well and I'm a fan of I:Scintilla- nice to meet someone else familiar. I am also a big fan of Jane Siberry *in that era*. I think that When I Was a Boy was a tremendous album. Everything before that was pop garbage, and after that she went off the rails.

I am not a fan of Morrisey at all. I think his ego got the better of him, he needed others to keep him in line, and the quality of the music is nowhere comparable to his work in The Smiths.

A great song from a local-to-me artist and from one of my favourite movie soundtracks.

You're right, those first two notes are immediately recognizable. This is on my list as well.

I love these music challenges! There are lots of them- too many for me to participate in all. But definitely great reminders and I've learned some new-to-me music as well. :)

I was in the Toronto area- they came many times. I believe they were even at Lollapolooza '92. I was spoiled in that way in the 90s- everyone came here and tickets were affordable.

This song brings back so many great memories of seeing it performed live in the early 90s.

Since today is Al Jourgensen's 67th birthday, it seems appropriate to post Ministry. Here's one of my faves- Stigmata, from their 1988 LP The Land of Rape and Honey.
Happy birthday, Uncle Al!

Five years max?!? That's it??? Surely there are other charges that can be pressed as well. Reckless endangerment leading to bodily harm/death? Manslaughter? Are those charges on your side of the invisible line? It really seems to me like the punishment here will not fit the crime.

And you nailed it – she is definitely an icon of endurance and an example of using your platform to protest injustice. She did so repeatedly. Her life was nothing short of tragic but from the tragedies she created so much beauty. Do check out the documentary and her autobiography that I mentioned.

I always thought this song pertained to an unhealthy romantic relationship. But when she explained that it was about her abusive mother and what all the different references meant, I connected to it in a different way, having had an abusive childhood. This one is def too raw to perform repeatedly.

I was never a huge fan either. But like with many celebrities those who are big fans, tend to deny or excuse away terrible behavior. That's not something I've ever been able to do. When somebody crosses certain lines I just can't listen to their music without that seeping into my head.

He truly is. My best friend/adopted sister is a huge fan. I mean when I say huge, her entire living and dining room is decorated in Prince memorabilia. And I respect him as an artist. But I have heard too many things about him as a human being that don't sit right.

After posting this, I had to listen to another three or four times. Just because.
girlrebuilt.bsky.social
Yeah, I have a lot of feelings about that. And if you read her autobiography, a lot of feelings about the way she was treated by Prince.

This one is just gut wrenching. But wow, was it ever a life well lived! And she was doing her thing right until the very end. Tremendous loss for humanity, but her contribution was just unsurpassed.

For #WindowsOnWednesday:
Looking out and into the windows of the #ChâteauLaurier in #Ottawa, thinking of all the history that each of these rooms holds. Over 100 years of stories whispered in their shadows.

A photo of a part of the Château Laurier in Ottawa, windows upon windows, taken from another part of the building. The windowsill is visible and curtains hang down the right side. The photo appears as if taken in sepia, but is actually in colour.
