At least they have a king with some kind of a clue of what he's doing, even if his mum was a hard act to follow. Anyway, all this 'no kings' stuff in the US is just because they don't want to use one of the 'D' words, coz that's what they have.
Oh, and another thing. In this area the flowers can give you a beating. This Trigger Plant (Stylidium sp) lures insects in with its shape and probably IR/UV patterns. When they alight it conks them on the back with a pollen covered club. This one was not happy and took some persuasion.
And finally, some more wildflower pix and I see they are setting up the local Kelmscott Show. Fireworks tonight and fairy floss tomorrow. I might enter the photography competition next year. Waddaya think?
More from my wildflower wander. Must remember to wear long trousers next time as I was wandering through the bush and saw my first snake for the season. A Dugite. Sorry, no pic. It did not want to hang around. Quite a good size. About 1.5m. They can be grumpy this time of year.
Went for a wildflower wander in my local bush reserve after being away for a month in Africa. The wildflower season is coming to a close, but it's not finished yet. The different species flower at different times, so there is always something new to see.

Yep. But people complain that the language is too complicated and then make us even more words that aren't needed. Now let me see, it's a skeet here, a tweet there, a blart on that platform, a poot on this one, oh and a fertang over there, not forgetting the all important splart. Post will do thanks
As a hater of silly made up words, I'll persist with calling them 'posts'.
Some cars seem to have very small blinker fluid tanks. Large SUVs, Audi's and BMWs among them. I have an SUV but mine has electric blinkers so I don't have the problem of running out of blinker fluid, which I believe is expensive.
All unpacked, washing done and jet lag almost gone. Three weeks more of anti malarials. Our Okavango Gin, acquired from the small outlet at Maun Airport, made it home in one piece, despite the efforts of the woman who slung her cabin bag on top of the back hammer throw style.
OOo! The trigger plants have started. Might go out and have a look tomorrow 😀
I would have thought they would have picked John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto) if they wanted an Italian who had actually been to the mainland. Maybe with his anglicised name they didn't realise he was Italian. Certainly seems a complicated situation.
Hmmm. Cabot was 1497 under Henry VII. He at least seems to have reasonable cred that he landed on mainland north America. Ponce de Leon was 1513? Certainly if you don't count Leif Ericsson then the Spanish probably had the first settlements on the mainland.
I'm not familiar with the US political process but how can the Speaker just not swear in a duly elected member coz 'don't feel like it'. If it's not supported by law or procedure then she should just take her seat in the house and see what happens.
Oh, a bit like James Cook 'discovering' Australia when quite a few Europeans had been here before, plus they could have just asked the Macassans. Good story but not too accurate.
I would have thought more the Caribbean. I would have thought John Cabot was more relevant to mainland North America.
I have never understood the US obsession with Columbus since he never actually went there. Oh, plus the fact he sure wasn't a nice person. And he got his geography wrong.
Sitting here at home in a little pool of sadness. Not only have I not seen an elephant all day, but I played back some of the music I recorded in West Africa, and the recordings are bleah. Flat. The camera audio wasn't up to it. I'll do the best I can with it. 😞
Shades of Clockwork Orange. I don't understand it. Gay people are no problem. Maybe try it on the religious. After all, they choose to be religious. It's not just how they are.
Airport. Bored. Time for posting some random but relevant stuff. Bluesky Sh*tposting. Our two modes of transport this year, the year of elephant seals and elephants, leopard seals and leopards. And yes, I know we are lucky to be able to do this but we planned it in our 30s.
And it's hard to capture that shine in a photo.
Where are we today? The sad destination of 'End of Itinerary'. Quiet breakfast, hand back hire car, check in baggage. Now I have a metric tonne of videos and stills to edit.
Just a pussycat picture from the other day. This young mother had two kittens, cubs?
BTW, lions are big. You very much get that idea when they are this close to you.
Last day in Botswana today. Drove the 120km back from Khwai. Took 3hrs. Road not too bad except the last 20km.
Have to repack our bags ready to fly. Cameras away, comfy, warm plane clothes out. Hard to believe we have to go back to real life, but if you lived this, it would not be special.
