She Is the recipient of many deserved honors, including the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and was the first Latina in history to be inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame. (honorary doctorate 2023 from UFSC and yale 2021)

After focusing her work on newcoming Japanese women, she sought after working with other minority groups so they would feel better supported. She now teaches Psychology at a Master's level and continues her practice part-time serving minority communities.
