I have a PhD in physics that I'm not using, if anyone wants it?

Mostly known as:
Trinity Collidge Guy.
Failed Seanad candidate.

He/him.
Why do people think that the '12 Days of Christmas' starts on the 1st of December?

Like, do they not find it odd that there is no actual overlap with Christmas doing it that way?

It's a bit annoying watching a show and thinking "the characters are compelling and I'm really invested in how the whole story is going to unfold" and then you go on to the subreddit / Twitter and the discourse is just "these characters are babygirl and I want them to kiss".

There's a problematic "how was your day gap?" between me and my wife.

I know extensive details about her coworkers and their interpersonal conflicts.

She is vaguely aware that I am in some kind of employment that compensates me financially.

Thinking about when I saw the new Naked Gun in the cinema and anytime there was a joke or anything out of the ordinary there was a guy right behind us who loudly went "heh heh, whaaaat da fooook?"

*struggling to make conversation with a stranger at a party*

"So... were you a caul birth by any chance?"

The scenario I choose to believe, because it is the funniest:

There is a critical quantity of human knowledge and output which, if AI were to be trained on, would lead to AGI. But they released ChatGPT 5 years too early and it so badly poisoned the available dataset that it's no longer possible

"He devoured books"

"He inhaled books"

"Bro filled himself from teeth to rectum with books"

Years ago on the Toy Show there was a family being interviewed about their dad in the army who had been in Lebanon for months.
He was hiding in a present to surprise them by coming home early.
They asked the kid what her dad's name is and she said 'Bertie'.

That wasn't his name.

If this wasn't a few weeks after Musk directing his chatbot to tell everyone that he was the smartest, sexiest, most athletic person who ever lived, I'd say this was the most embarrassing thing anyone has ever done.

Writing a sci-fi novel that is impenetrable to the reader due to the complete lack of exposition.

"I trust you are familiar with the customs of the planet of Thraxor?"

"Yes."

"Ok then."

Question:

Has anyone ever successfully scanned a QR code at Heuston?

Any time I choose a QR code ticket they've never been working.

2025 Book #19: Garth Marenghi's TerrorTome

I enjoyed it but you absolutely have to go into it already a fan of the character. I think it only works if you read everything in his voice.

It's honestly like a novelisation of a Darkplace film.

I sit at my typewriter, I'm 70 years old. I have just finished my life's work, a 500-page novel about kayaking that is a perfect palindrome.
I add the last (and in a sense, first) page to the rest and square up the stack.
"Wow, this fucking sucks shit" I mutter as I pass away.

What the fuck is anyone on LinkedIn ever talking about?

Someone in the office who I've only ever interacted with on Outlook walked by while I had an email from them open.

They were wearing the exact same outfit as they had on in their profile image and it just looked like this:

There's some incredible levels to this.

Matthew Holness is writing a book in character as Garth Marenghi.

The book Marenghi has written has a self-insert character who is also a horror author called Nick Steen.

Steen has also written a book with a self-insert author character.

> pacemaker companies realise they make more money selling data that correlates vital signs with location data.

> get pacemaker-as-a-service.

> needs cloud connection to function.

> AWS goes down.

> fucking dies.

I love that moment when you see that someone has realised they have exhausted your dialogue tree.

Social media has opened my eyes to the baffling ways that other people engage with film and television.

What the fuck do you mean you were disappointed by Peter Griffin's behaviour in this scene?

The lack of any additional context makes this read like the most pointless headline ever.

2025 Book #18: Prelude to Foundation

Hari Seldon is such a powerful figure in the other Foundation books because of how little you know and here he's a bit of an annoying dipshit.

Maybe it's better if you read the Robot books first but I found this one really underwhelming.

I only learned today that Ethan Slater played Spongebob Squarepants in a musical.

I honestly thought people referred to him as "Spongebob" because he was ugly.
