We want to send a big THANK YOU to all who gave during World Animal Day. Over 75 of our sanctuary family members contributed and, with the addition of a gracious match donation by the Rick & Michele Palmer Animal Relief Fund, you helped us raise a total of $6,518–all of which will go toward

You can see in the video that Kenya has dug a little hole in the dirt with her trunk,

While one of our caregivers was cleaning the barn after breakfast, Kenya was in the adjoining stall and she lay down. It’s not unusual for her to do that, especially late in the morning, because that’s her fairly regular routine. When she first arrived at the sanctuary, she was more sensitive

Support the sanctuary with a DAF on #DAFDay! Think of a DAF as a savings account for giving. You contribute to the account, receive a tax deduction, and then recommend grants to support nonprofits like Global Sanctuary for Elephants whenever you’re ready. globalelephants.org/daf-day-is-o...

VOLUME UP for an elephant party! Maia, Guillermina, and Bambi eat together almost every meal. You’ve probably seen many videos of them greeting the day together in a very silly, vocal way. A lot of times, Maia will start with some trumpets while Bambi rumbles, and then Guille will offer up

That seemed to make Pupy more comfortable and she finished her last few mouthfuls. All was calm and no one had a strong reaction to the other–but we will keep an eye on them as they continue to get used to each other’s behaviors and mannerisms.

Based on what we’ve seen from Pupy and Kenya during their meals, we figured that they wouldn’t have too many issues “sharing” their neighbor’s food. (Guille and Maia have been guilty of this in the past.) But, since everyone is still in the getting-to-know-you phase,

The rainy season is going to help improve Kenya's skin by softening the old built-up layers of dead skin cells and dirt. (You can see this build up on her trunk in this photo)

The rainy season arrived with a bang! 🌧️ Kenya lifted her trunk to sniff the air before the downpour—her first real tropical storm after decades in dry Mendoza. She later celebrated by shaking trees, while Pupy made a muddy mess by the trough. Read more: globalelephants.org/the-first-re...

The evening colors at the sanctuary are almost indescribable. In fact, the horizon view at any time of the day is remarkable–and you can see for miles in each direction. The night sky can truly take your breath away. For this week’s Sunday Smile,

Right now, we need more space to welcome animals in need. This World Animal Day, help us improve our wildlife enclosures by donating toward the metal fencing needed for the expansion. The Rick & Michele Palmer Animal Relief Fund will match all gifts up to $2,500 – doubling your impact.

It’s World Animal Day and while elephants are at the heart of what we do, our team also cares for many native species here in Brazil’s Cerrado. From tapirs and toucans to anteaters and owls, our rehab program gives wildlife the chance to heal and return to their forest homes. 🌿 (link below)
