Uny et al(2025)show how public health advocates in Malawi fought a long battle rife with alcohol industry interference to ensure a ban on the sale of alcohol in sachets in Malawi. No sachets makes alcohol less accessible to young people.

Thailand's Alcohol Beverage Control Act (Nov 2025) has made alcohol less accessible by introducing fines for drinkers who consume alcohol outside of prohibited hours. They have also tightened restrictions on alcohol marketing. Great step! Read here: www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia...

A University of Stirling study (Uny et al, July 2025) which interviewed ambulance staff in Scotland, found that they experience unpredictable behaviour from intoxicated patients, and often experience violence and harassment from patients and bystanders.

We're sad to hear that the Eurocare office will close. It is a stark reminder of the situation in the alcohol policy advocacy field where there is hardly any funding available. We trust the organisation's many dedicated members will keep the organisation alive until new opportunities arise.
The European Alcohol Health Policy Alliance (Eurocare) said funding shortfalls have forced it to schedule the closure of its Brussels office from the end of the year. It said it will keep its network of over 50 members for policy co-ordination.
