I have a character that’s an ice fungus who’s merely imitating a bat (White-Nose Syndrome monster), and figuring out their “wings” + how they hang was probably my favorite part!

I think stuff like homebrewed DND does it right- you get your flaming death swords and illusion powers, but you can also make your paladin a socially anxious tarantula conman who fights with illusions rather than raw strength.
