Celery queue memory exceeded

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

But what is your favorite sausage?
Italian?
Breakfast?
Hotdog?
Blood?
Other? __________

I'm not good at making lists of sausage kinds from memory sorry.

I *really* like the way you do the action swiggles for the tails

Your handwriting doesn't suck! It's legible and stylish.

I particularly like the way you write "n". It's unique compared to a lot of handwriting I see!

Do you ever order food, *forget* you've ordered food, then have the wonderful experience of food appearing by surprise?

No I'm not high I'm just easily distracted.

The idea I've had a Good Take let alone a Best Take (relative to what you've seen) is hard to comprehend but acknowledged nonetheless.

Thanks!

And I hope you enjoy the rewatch! I'm planning to show it to my girlfriend soon (already showed her Videodrome) and so will probably have fresh rants lol

There are so many ways the world of Scanners can evolve because the basics of how psychic powers work is so FASCINATING.
gncsp.bsky.social
I imagine those that try ephemerol would be rejected by wider society as unwise. Others might suggest the problem was a single global mind, instead of a large number of small hive minds.
gncsp.bsky.social
But would they really even understand what happened? Would the Monomind have had any reason to write down what happened? I like to think those that were able to predict what was happening would have written things down for the next generation.
gncsp.bsky.social
In that scenario, it leads to a lot of interesting questions as to how that next generation would develop! I imagine the sanctity of isolating our minds would be important to them, but also a sect would want to rebuild what was lost.
gncsp.bsky.social
In the worst case, we might end up mindless meat machines barely able to survive. In the most survivable case, maybe some of them would give birth to a new generation of confused, non-psychic children with no exposure to ephemerol who'd have to rebuild.
gncsp.bsky.social
It's not like we wouldn't have disagreements, but empathy would be much greater and more powerful than we have it now.

At the same time, the Monomind might go to war with itself, and destroy itself in the process, resulting in global neurological blowout.
gncsp.bsky.social
In a world where people are interconnected in this way, we could potentially see a sense of unity that we never had before. Lying would be something we let people do out of politeness, not because we could genuinely be tricked. Perspective is something we could truly share.
gncsp.bsky.social
Imagine spending a year within the Monomind before returning to your own body, and what that would do to your perspective.

Dr. Ruth is a piece of shit who experimented on his own sons and used them like disposable test subjects, but his idea that scanners were the next phase for humanity makes sense
gncsp.bsky.social
but don't necessarily want to share a single mind at all times. Whether we become a huge blob or simply interconnected individuals is up to us, and likely there would be people who exist in one camp or the other, and perhaps move between those two states.
gncsp.bsky.social
This collective of minds using the meat machines to help sustain the whole, and potentially taking turns inhabiting those machines, but otherwise existing in a higher plane.

But that's only optional-- depending on how this society develops, we might remain as simple individuals who are connected
gncsp.bsky.social
In an all-scanner world, we'd become a hive mind. We'd potentially be capable of acting as individuals, but our bodies wouldn't be anything more than physical components to a great internetworked meat machine that hosts our consciousnesses.
gncsp.bsky.social
So when Vale's body is burnt, it naturally finds refuge within what neurons remain. As far as scanning is concerned, they were one interconnected system for which part of it failed.

In this sense, it'd be MORE than a collective unconscious.
gncsp.bsky.social
It's more like merging to computers into one, letting them interact, then letting them split apart. In a psychic interaction, whether it be with a computer or a person, or even a group, you become ONE.

When Revok loses, he loses in a psychic bubble, not in a single body.
gncsp.bsky.social
In the ending, the fight between brothers ends with the main character burning to a crisp but his mind inhabiting that of the other. This plays into how scanning was introduced: That interconnection isn't the same as connecting two computers with an Ethernet cable
gncsp.bsky.social
Essentially you could have a world of people psychically interacting with what could essentially become a collective unconscious (or MORE). You can actually see a bit of this from the ending of the movie *SPOILERS FOLLOW*
gncsp.bsky.social
OKOK also if you think about it you don't even need the Internet unless you want to have some machines to interface with, but in a world where everybody's psychic, and because psychic interaction can be done remotely (as seen in the scene where a group of scanners do a group scan at a distance)
gncsp.bsky.social
You could imagine a modern day follow up where everybody's psychic and mind-melded with the Internet in a fascinating Cyberpunk way which I think is COOL and INTERESTING
gncsp.bsky.social
And it leads me to think that if you made a follow-up to this movie in the modern day, since psychic powers could potentially be on the rise with the popularization of the drug that induces psychic powers in children
gncsp.bsky.social
So we get an incredibly cool scene with psychically linking with a mainframe through a phone line (back when phone lines were the main way to communicate between computers, predating the Internet) that is totally in line with the worldbuilding
