In 2026 serious multiplayer developers find the game with their community. Especially if you're trying to make something as weird as Highguard.

Shadow dropping Apex Legends worked for 2 reasons:

1) Respawn was a highly respected developer
2) It was a basic ass no explanation required battle royale
"Internal feedback on Highguard prior to its reveal "was quite positive," Sobel wrote: There was, apparently, a widespread expectation that the game was a sure-fire hit."

Getting playtests and mock reviews done by external partners can be a really good idea.
Laid-off Highguard developer cuts loose on the reaction to the infamous Game Awards reveal trailer: 'We were turned into a joke from minute one'
Former lead technical artist Josh Sobel says false assumptions and ragebait were major contributors to Highguard's failure to connect with players.

I don't think Romeo is a Deadman is for me. It seems to be mechanics in support of a story and vibe. I mostly prefer it the other way around these days. Also at some point "Here's a weird mix of random shit!" Passes through fun & wacky to become scattershot & incohesive.

Hey people in every meeting trying to talk THEM out of Highguard's release strategy.

It's not your fault.

Of course after finishing so many games last month I've fallen hard back into Enshrouded. Something about this game just eats hours like drunk college guys eat Taco Bell at 1:00AM. I've gotten to the most recent biome though and have high hopes for a 1.0 later this year.

It appears obvious to me that any formerly human created work of entertainment that becomes overrun with AI creation will lose nearly all its value.

Despite the headline this article speculates the GeForce 60 series might even miss 2028. Settle in boys and square away your rig's cooling, we're in for a long PC winter.
Nvidia’s RTX 50-series Super refresh is delayed, and the RTX 60-series might miss 2027
A report from The Information says Nvidia’s RTX 50 Super GPU is delayed with no new release date, and that the RTX 60 launch could be pushed back into 2028.

Today's ruck: My dog Zooey and I scrabbled down a muddy path in a forested ravine. Nobody else passed us the entire time. The best part is this was about a mile from my house. I love living in a city that leaves these rather untouched green spaces intermingled throughout the neighborhoods.

Weeks 2 - 4 of my backlog catch-up. I have a backlog about my backlog how wacky. I've finished 7 games this month, which is way above average for me. I doubt I can keep this up plus none of them were very long except for STALKER 2, of which most of my hours were in December.

Would video games be cooked without stepping on pressure plates to trigger ancient mechanisms?

I don't think the guard is particularly high actually.

I spent a lot of the first annual Highguard Celebration Day playing God of War Ascension.

No I'm okay, thanks for the concern.

You could actually structure your moral code around the idea that law enforcement doesn't exist to execute people. You don't have to create perfect victim narratives, you can just refuse to accept that the state gets to kill people.

The surface of the sun AKA the Photosphere runs at around 5,500 Celsius. The sun's Corona however, which can be described as it's outer atmosphere that extends millions of miles into space, can be between 1,000,000 and 5,500,000 Celsius. We don't know why.

The Dark Star, Nemesis, or Planet X. It's had many names. For decades astronomers have been tracking a gravitational anomaly that could be 5 to 10 times the mass of earth beyond the orbit of Neptune. But we've never been anywhere close to finding it. That might have changed recently.

The sun fuses around 613 million metric tons of hydrogen every SECOND. About 609 of that is converted to helium and the rest is converted into energy.

4 million metric tons is about 720 Great Pyramids of mass lost per second.

The idea that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in development after today's Ubisoft purge is patently hilarious. That thing should have been cancelled 10 years ago, and if it ever did release it would sell horribly.

It makes me wonder what dirt the game is blackmailing Yves with.

This Panther Lake GPU seems pretty incredible. We really need to see it at 15w - 30w but at 60w I'm impressed.
