Oh boy, can't wait for the soundtrack composed by Lotus Juice. 🙄

Yeah, it does seem more “pure” on some level—making art for its own sake as a hobby, not for money or self-promotion.

…But it also makes me feel senile, when I remember an artwork online but can’t find it b/c it’s been deleted. 😩

That is a very common attitude among Japanese artists, too—not seeking exposure, but instead wanting to keep their work within private circles, where they can control who sees what.

Thanks to the game's simple models, it was easy to render them in my own style and play with perspective without making too much extra work for myself.

Keep your designs simple, folks! 😁

I'm glad to share some promo art I drew for 'Wiz Hunter', an upcoming indie roguelike deckbuilder from Swedish developer QuadArk!

It's about a muscle-bound cyclops who seeks revenge on a cabal of asshole wizards after they burn down his farm.

It was a ton of fun to draw. Thanks again to QuadArk!

I vote top left but that's my caveman Yu-Gi-Oh brain talking.

I recognize Solemn Judgment and Judge Man, I don't know the pink lady, but boobs, so I click the video. I have no idea who the center character in the bottom two is, her intricate design doesn't read well at thumbnail size.

My point is, if you're going to pay homage to that era of retro games, at least do it justice and hire a professional pixel artist, please!

We're nice people, and not too expensive, I promise! 🥹

Warframe does slightly, with Caliber Chicks 2 featuring some genuinely good splash art, but its POM-2 UI still has some bad-looking chat icons and blockiness.

I've begun noticing this same trend in AAA games, where there's arcade cabinet with a cute faux-retro minigame that almost ALWAYS has the ugliest MS Paint-tier pixel art I've seen.

These games are pushing 4K textures and post-processing, but when it comes to pixels it's amateur hour with MS Paint.

A few years ago I mentioned my pet peeve with "pixel art" on mainstream products, which are always slapped-together with no regard for techniques like line weight, curves, or anti-aliasing that makes it a genuine art form.

Like village elders, it is our duty to pass on the boomer-game culture to the next generation. ✋😔

Recently shared my Steam account with my youngest brother.

After a childhood spent in Roblox and Valorant, he’s already beaten Mark of the Ninja and well into UFO 50.

…I’m so proud. 🥹

Pixelling fingers sucks so damn hard, y'all. 😭✋✌️🫰

Yeah, turns out it was the usual: a perfusion of ideas, and not having to constantly fret over money.

Great article by @jasonschreier.bsky.social, I recommend y’all give it a read!
Why ‘Silksong’ Took Seven Years to Make
The highly anticipated indie game has been in production for so long that it’s become an internet meme

Ayyy, Silksong on September 4th!

Anticipating the feedback will be, “It’s is pretty good, but in no way should this have taken seven years.”

…🤷‍♂️?
godsavant.bsky.social
I haven’t reached that part yet! 😅

But I agree, that period before DUSK revived the boomer-shooter genre was a low point for most of the iD alumni. Looking forward to what he says about it.

It’s like the movie ‘Uncut Gems’, watching Romero make bigger and bigger reckless gambles instead of playing it safe.

Maybe that’s what it takes to be a revolutionary game dev, but it’s so different from my own mentality that I feel like I understand him even less than before.
godsavant.bsky.social
Reading it me feel the opposite: disconnected and exasperated at his decisions.

Headed to college with a family and girlfriend in England? Leave them to work manual labor in California.

Landed his dream job at Origin Systems? Quit immediately to found a failed start-up.
godsavant.bsky.social
Oh, I apologize, apparently they prefer the term "Skongers"? 😄
godsavant.bsky.social
My best guess is Team Cherry simply had a desire to experiment and expand beyond the base game’s formula, but had to learn new skills on the fly to implement them. Six years is a long time to hone one’s craft.
godsavant.bsky.social
Glad that Silksong fans are finally being exonerated after years of descending into psychosis.

More than the game itself, I am very curious about the behind-the-scenes story of its protracted development, and how much of it parallels KZ’s DLC.
godsavant.bsky.social
I don't know where you read that but nah, it's been done and ready for six years!
godsavant.bsky.social
Damn, they're really playing the long game with the DLC drops. I animated a character for this game back in 2019, but they still haven't revealed it... 😅

Wait, you mean Lord of the Clans? That was also them?! 🫢

I remember seeing another of their games, some kind of sci-fi sports game that actually had decent animation. Those CD-i games were a product of low pay and tight deadlines.
