We argue that now is the time to:
📣 Fight for the sustainability of inclusive pipelines
🤝collaborate across institutions
⚙️design support structures that don’t depend solely on precarious federal funding
We must be intentional—and political—about who gets to be in the room.

This article is more than an overview—it's a response to a political moment. With DEI efforts facing political backlash, including state-level bans and uncertainty around inclusive funding, programs like MPE are increasingly difficult to sustain yet more essential than ever.

We built this program around
✅ rigorous research methods training (quant & qual)
✅multilayered mentoring: faculty/grad students/peers
✅community-building practices that sustain long-term support
✅accessibility: recruitment -no rec letters + targeted outreach to MSIs & non-R1s

In this piece, we reflect on the development and impact of the Mobilization and Political Economy (MPE) Summer Program—a residential, fully funded graduate pipeline initiative designed to support underrepresented undergrad students in social sciences.
