Governor Phil Murphy
@govmurphy.bsky.social
Former Governor of the Garden State. Husband to Tammy.
Congratulations, Governor Sherrill!

This is a truly historic and joyous day for New Jersey.

Mikie has done it all. Like a true Naval aviator, she has navigated the chaos of Congress with grit and grace. She has devoted her life to serving our country.

It has been an extraordinary run.

As I leave the State House for the last time as Governor, I am proud to say we are leaving our children a state that is better than we found it. A New Jersey that is stronger, fairer, and more responsible.

Today, we honor the immeasurable impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s lifelong commitment to equality and economic justice.

To my incredible wife, Tammy, and our wonderful children, Josh, Emma, Charlie, and Sam, your support means the world to me.

From the bottom of my heart: thank you.

As heavy snowfall continues across the state, we urge you to avoid driving if possible.

If you must drive, please do so slowly and safely.

Eight years ago today, I stood on stage and took the oath as the 56th Governor of New Jersey.

During our final days in office, I’m proud to say that we’ve kept our promise to build a New Jersey that is stronger and fairer than ever before.

Today, I signed legislation creating new oversight and establishing new transparency requirements for charter schools.

Together, we are setting a higher standard for charter schools and giving the NJ Dept. of Education greater authority to hold them accountable to taxpayers and communities.

32 years since our first date and happier than ever.

To my amazing wife and best friend: I couldn’t have done this without you. I love you, Tammy!

Today, I signed legislation modernizing the process for filling vacant U.S. House of Representatives seats — preventing delays, reducing voter confusion, and ensuring we don't have long periods without representation. www.nj.gov/governor/new...

Today, I proudly signed the First Responders Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Protection Act into law, providing employment protections for paid first responders diagnosed with PTSD.

It has been the highest honor of my life to serve as Governor to the nine-and-a-half million New Jerseyans who call our great state home.

As our state’s commuters will be quick to tell you: NJ TRANSIT is not yet where it needs to be. But it is also lightyears ahead of where it was.

Before I entered office, the last time New Jersey received a credit rating upgrade was in 2005.

In the past three years, we have secured NINE credit rating upgrades. By contrast, the prior administration had 11 credit rating downgrades.

At a time when New Jersey is ascendant, there is only one thing that can stand in our way – and that is ourselves.

We cannot repeat the mistakes of the past. That is why, when I entered office in 2018, I promised to turn things around as Governor.

New Jersey is quickly becoming THE global destination for film and television production.

@netflix.com. @lionsgate.com. @paramountpics.bsky.social: some of the biggest names in the business. And they are all putting down roots in the Garden State.

We have set New Jersey on course to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

A future where we meet our responsibility to combat climate change while also creating new sources of affordable, reliable energy that lower costs in the long-term.

When the Supreme Court launched an unprecedented assault on reproductive rights, we — in New Jersey — fought back.

Months before the Court issued its dreadful Dobbs decision, we took action and codified the right to abortion.

Thanks to the leadership of Lt. Governor Way, New Jersey’s democracy is stronger, and more secure, than ever before.

We have set the national standard for protecting the integrity of our democratic process.

We restored funding for long-neglected priorities — pensions, public education, public transit, women’s health care — AND secured NINE consecutive credit rating upgrades in just three years, after a generation of downgrades.

Together, we have proudly delivered more property tax relief to the people of New Jersey than any Administration in history.

Nearly twice as much, in fact, as the last Administration.

We were told that reforming a broken criminal justice system would jeopardize public safety, and what did we do?

We reduced New Jersey’s prison population to its lowest levels in decades — AND brought homicides and shootings down to record lows at the same time.
January 13, 2026 at 8:33 PM
We were told raising the minimum wage would kill jobs and crash the economy, and what did we do?

We passed a law nearly doubling the minimum wage — AND built the fastest-growing economy in the entire Northeast. All at the same time.

Back in January 2018, New Jersey was a state in dire need of a turnaround.

When I entered office, the needs of the people were being pushed aside.

Today at 3:00 p.m., I will deliver my final State of the State Address.

Over the past eight years, we have built a New Jersey that is stronger AND fairer than ever before. We were who we said we’d be — and we did what we said we’d do.

Let us reflect on the progress we have made together.
