A couple months ago, I vended at the Poplar Hill Festival. It was a rainy day, which had me slightly worried.

This week's post is suited for beginners who wish to learn how to make tatted lace. It features the supplies and the basics regarding loading the shuttle. You've decided to start tatting lace! As a long-time tatter, I can promise it's a wonderful, albeit challenging, skill to learn, provided you decide to stick with it. You'll need three things to start tatting, a shuttle, a pair of scissors, and a very smooth length of thread.

I can't guarantee the historical accuracy of the first technique, but I certainly hope you'll consider not cutting your lace any more than necessary! I'm partial to the fold and sew in place method. This ensures your lace can be reused, even if a garment gets otherwise ruined. It's so simple! Just fold, play around with it so it looks as nice as it can, and stitch it into place.

A few months ago I spotted an opportunity to contribute something new to the EGL community. I've worn lolita fashion for years, and felt this might be fun. I was right! I've followed Frilly Freedom for a little while, as I love zines about lolita fashion. It fills in the gap after mooks like Gothic & Lolita Bible being discontinued.

I've been excited to vend at another one of these since the Renaissance themed one last year, but the themes didn't seem quite right. While lacemaking is a bit unorthodox for a summer-camp, many of us have made macrame, and that's the foundation of one of the oldest forms of lacemaking in the world! Despite the leap, I call it close enough.

Because the process is a large part of my joy with lace-making, I love to share behind-the-scenes type of content. During the slow January-February season, quite a few listings expired. It's the perfect time to do inventory and renew things relevant listings.

I recently felt the impulse to re-read the Needle Craft Mystery Series. I'd first found the series by Monica Ferris a few years ago, and burned through it all pretty quickly. I decided it was time to revisit them. This time, I decided to start with book one. It's an excellent launch to the series, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a quick listen; the audio-book is less than 8 hours.
