A hounskull knight and a lady briefly meet on the stairs of a tower. The sunset light enters the small windows, warming up their encounter in the dark tower. She looks up at the knight, her left hand on his chest, with a slightly worried look but also blushing while he grips her wrist. The knight is also holding up his hand making a shushing gesture, indicating that this is probably a secret meeting between forbidden lovers.

Excerpt from a scene at the Tiefling party:

Ayrn watched Rolan impressing the children with small displays of magic to be outshined by Gale’s illusions. She watched Alfira and Wyll deep in discussion around ballads and tales from across the Sword Coast. She even noticed Astarion’s toe tapping to the beat, despite his sulking.

Zevlor also turned his eyes slowly away from her, but his thoughts could not stray from the confrontation he knew was inevitable.

“Ayrn…what happened in Elturel, I don’t fault you for it. You protected your own, just as I did mine.”

“You still linger in the past-“

“Because what are we but a landscape of our pasts?”

Ayrn’s lips thinned. “I did not follow you, you have every right even now to hate me.”

“Hate is… a word I do not use lightly,” Zevlor said, his glowing amber gaze shifting back to the woman at his side. “But I will not lie, when you chose to stay behind in the city, I was angry. Angry at you for abandoning us, for turning to perpetrate further bloodshed. Angry that you ultimately desired to return to the life of a bandit, an extortionist. Angry that you were willing to let what we had fall apart.”

“And what was it we had?” Ayrn’s eyes met his once more.

There was silence, the humming of the camp impenetrable to the tension that boiled between them.

“Forgive me,” The Paladin’s shoulders squared, his eyes looking down into the goblet, “I only thought-“

“Zevlor, I did care about you. I do care about you,” Ayrn interrupted gently. “But like you said—“

“I protected my own, just as you did yours”
“You protected your own, just as I did mine.”

Their voice harmonized together under the same sentiment, and finally Ayrn’s grimace softened into a small smile.

“For what it’s worth…I’m sorry.”

Zevlor exhaled. His posture eased, the look of a man whose burdens had lightened if only by a few thousand bricks. His eyes met hers again.

“I do not ask you to be sorry… but that does not mean it is not good to hear.”
