Our Monday walk this week was along the Water of Leith to Saughton Park. Along the walk we spotted herons fishing on the water, unperturbed by 10 people watching it. The sun came out at the gardens, and we enjoyed the fragrances of herbs and the last of the summer bloomers.

A big thank you to EDF for looking after the Arboretum at Leith Links. They raked the meadow areas to remove thatch material, mulched trees, removed tree protection that was restricting tree growth and added tree protection for younger trees that required it.

Fungus and furry animals were the order of the day on our latest Nordic walk! We took our exercise along Lymphoy Road at the edge of the Pentlands and spotted plenty of Fly agaric and Shaggy ink cap as well as goats, horses and sheep. It's great to get out of the city and explore

It was fantastic to see so many people at our foraging for fibres walk at Craigmillar Castle Park. We looked at the crafting possibility of lime, birch, hazel, nettle, willow, brambles, rosebay willow herb, pine needles, and grasses. And the sun shone again for us.

A big thank you to the team from Wood MacKenzie to look after the Wee Forest at Hailes Quarry Park and do some litter picking. Keeping the Dock and Creeping Thistle at bay in the establishing stages of the Wee Forest is really important and the group worked hard to give the trees a helping hand.

We adore Redford Woods so it was sad to see lots of rubbish in the burn and throughout the blackthorn bushes today. Our local volunteers worked really hard in awkward places to reach all this rubbish and we celebrate them for taking action to look after this beautiful greenspace
