THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

A thirteenth I know: if the new-born son
of a warrior I sprinkle with water,
that youth will not fail when he fares to war,
never slain shall he bow before sword.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

I counsel thee, Stray-Singer, accept my counsels,
...
hast thou a friend whom thou trustest well,
fare thou to find him oft;
for with brushwood grows and with grasses high
the path where no foot doth pass.

The map is controlled from a dashboard that lets you navigate around it. Everything also appears in a large scale format on the wall.
On this day, September 25 in 1066, the Battle of Stamford Bridge was fought between the Kingdom of England and the invading Viking army led by King Harald Hardrada.

The defeat of the Vikings symbolizes the end of the Viking Age, since it was the last great attack on England.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

He must rise betimes who hath few to serve him,
and see to his work himself;
who sleeps at morning is hindered much,
to the keen is wealth half-won.

The amazing longhouse at Borg, Lofoten in Norway.

It's quite the distance up north, but well worth a visit.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

I counsel thee, Stray-Singer, accept my counsels,
they will be thy boon if thou obey'st them,
they will work thy weal if thou win'st them:
rejoice not ever at tidings of ill,
but glad let thy soul be in good.
-Hávamál, Stanza 127
Throwback to when Arve and Sjöberg of Grimfrost visited the archives of the Swedish History Museum that houses the world's largest collection of Viking Age finds.
This runestone was found as part of the wall of Skärkind Church in Sweden when it was demolished in 1844.

It translates to: "Göt and Fastulv and Björn and Rosten they raised this stone in memory of Stybbe, their good father".
