We have been learning more about recycling during #recyclingweek

Families enjoyed watching our beautiful film on sustainability featuring @laurahallain.bsky.social by @sirenfilms.bsky.social

We read a range of books/info about looking after our planet.

And children have been junk modelling.
A selection of books about caring for planet earth set out on a green table cloth. A display board of information about recycling in Southwark - leaflets, books. A smart board in a classroom playing our sustainability film for families. Laura Henry Allain on the screen. An example of junk modelling by one of the children. Cardboard tubes and masking tape to represent spiders on a log.

The chn have been thinking about recycling waste for #recycleweek
They brought recycling in from home to sort into different piles and took them to the nursery recycling bins. They continue to take care of nursery by picking up litter from the garden/classroom floor to recycle or put in the bin.

The chn explored different brushes and combs for maintaining and styling Afro hair. We looked at beautiful books about hair. We learnt names of different hair styles, including 'Chiney Bumps' that one of our team had when she was a girl in Jamaica. And we looked at different hairstyles people have.
A selection of hair brushes used to maintain and style Afro hair: wide tooth comb, Afro comb, detangler brush, boar bristle brush, Denman brush. On a table top. Children exploring them. A selection of books to explore to learn about Afro hair including a book about wash day. Set on a table with an African print table cloth. A mannequin with a Jamaican chimney bump styled into it. Next to a braid. A display of photos natural Afro hairstyles for adults and children from across many years.

The Grove celebrated World Afro Day today. Parents came in to share how they take care of their children's hair - showing tools and products. Our staff talked about their hair too. One of our team, whose child attends our setting, showed the chn how she styles her daughter's hair after wash day 🧵
A parent and child spraying water on a mannequin's hair and using a detangling comb to gently tease out knots. A parent demonstrating how she removes braids from her son's hair using the thin end of a tail comb. Our colleague styling her daughter's hair in the home corner. She is choosing which bands she would like in her hair. A parent demonstrating on a mannequin how she does corn rows.
