There's a train of thought here that there seems to be a certain reluctance in concluding. Perhaps I can help. The reason he's still in post and barely challenged is because the UK press is giving him a free ride. It seems logical to conclude that most editors are happily onboard with his racism.

Hate idea of being in a book club. Reading for me's very personal: I get very angsty if spouse says "well parts of that were very derivative..." when he reads a book/series that's gripped me and I loved, I couldn't deal with acquaintances saying it.
Besides, Eng Lit analysing killed my reading.
