If the Israelis lay down their arms, a genocide ends immediately. If Hamas lays down their arms, Israel’s planned ethnic cleansing of Gaza happens quickly and without resistance.

In the Palestinian town of Turmus Ayya, northeast of Ramallah, settlers are seizing crops from the trees before their rightful owners have a chance to harvest them.

Starved, displaced, and unsafe no matter where they go, children in a displacement camp in southern Gaza sing “My homeland, the Beautiful One”. Immense respect to the Palestinian musicians helping these children survive the genocide.

Dozens of aid trucks enter Gaza as UN prepares for 'surge' in deliveries

This is set to increase to 600- the minimum number estimated by the UN required to address the humanitarian crisis in the strip. Trump's 20-point plan states that the entry and distribution of aid into Gaza will “proceed without interference”, but Israeli administrative restrictions and bureaucracy have long hampered the flow of badly needed aid into the territory.

Large-scale aid distribution will be led by the UN, although the role of the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (Unrwa) in the operation remains unclear. The agency has said half the supplies stored in warhouses outside Gaza belong to the agency, emphasising that their scope and expertise within the territory is "absolutely critical in controlling the spread of famine”.

An estimated 460 Palestinians have died from Israeli-imposed starvation since it launched its genocide in Gaza in October 2023.

The UN children's charity UNICEF warned that there is a risk of a "massive spike in child death, not only neonatal, but also infants, given their immune systems are more compromised than ever before".

As the UN prepares to take over aid distribution, the scandal-plagued US and Israeli private contractor Gaza Humanitairan Foundation (GHF) is dismantling its hubs across the strip. Israeli soldiers shot large numbers of Palestinian aid seekers are the distribution sites, which one UN official described as "sadistic death traps". Al Jazeera reported that remnants of Israeli munitions that had been used to attack Palestinians were found at the sites.

Mutual aid groups told MEE that tents, trailers and materials for constructing shelter are the number one priority given the onset of wintry weather, shortly followed by medical supplies and doctors.

Mohammad Zaqout, the director general of hospitals in Gaza told Al Jazeera that medical supplies and medicines are urgently needed, but none have arrived yet. Hours after the ceasefire took effect, Hamas moved swiftly to re-establish control across the Gaza Strip — setting up checkpoints, clashing with rival factions, and targeting suspected collaborators.

The Financial Times cited witnesses who said gun battles broke out in northern Gaza between Hamas and clans armed by Israel, while armed fighters were seen searching cars in Gaza City and negotiating disarmament with militias in Khan Younis. Hamas has ordered all rivals to surrender their weapons within 48 hours. The largest militia, the Popular Forces — backed by Israel — has refused.

According to the BBC, Hamas has also recalled about 7,000 fighters to reassert control over areas vacated by Israeli troops and appointed five new governors, all with military backgrounds. A BBC Arabic analyst said the move signals Hamas’s intent to maintain order, secure aid convoys, and resist exclusion from Gaza’s future governance — despite Trump’s plan calling for an international “stabilization force.”

The ceasefire deal currently includes only a prisoner exchange and limited Israeli withdrawal. A second phase, yet to be negotiated, involves discussion on Hamas’ continued use of arms. For now, however, the group’s rapid mobilization suggests it remains firmly in control of Gaza’s internal security.

3. Abdullah Barghouti

Born in 1972 in Kuwait, Abdullah Barghouti moved to Jordan after the Gulf War, where he earned a diploma in mechanics. He later studied electronic engineering in South Korea, where he also learned to manufacture explosives and gained advanced skills in computer and communications hacking.

During the Second Intifada (2000), Barghouti became one of the most prominent engineers behind Palestinian resistance operations. He was briefly detained by the Palestinian Preventive Security, and after his release, continued organizing operations against Israeli occupation forces and settlements. Israel accuses him of responsibility for the deaths of 66 Israelis and injuries to over 500 others.

Barghouti was arrested by Israeli forces on March 5, 2003, and later sentenced to 67 life terms — the longest prison sentence in history. He spent 10 years in solitary confinement, subjected to severe psychological and physical torture. Over two decades in prison, his family has been allowed to visit him only six times. During the 2011 “Wafa al-Ahrar” (Gilad Shalit) exchange, he refused to be released, insisting that others who had been jailed longer be freed first. In April 2025, his daughter Tala Barghouti revealed devastating new details from a lawyer’s recent visit, including that most of the bones in his body had been broken due to extreme beatings:

“The lawyer left the meeting with Abdullah Barghouti in tears, unable to describe the brutal torture she had witnessed. It was no ordinary visit—it was a human shock that encapsulated the suffering of a prisoner subjected to daily torture, with his dignity utterly crushed.”

2. Ahmad Sa’adat

Born February 23, 1953, in Al-Bireh near occupied Jerusalem, Ahmad Sa’adat comes from a Palestinian family displaced from Deir Tarif in the Ramla district during the 1948 Nakba.

Sa’adat joined the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in 1969, the Marxist-Leninist movement founded by George Habash, and steadily rose through its ranks. Following the 2001 assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa, the PFLP’s central committee elected Sa’adat as Secretary-General in October 2001.

He has been arrested repeatedly since 1969, enduring long periods in Israeli prisons, often under administrative detention without trial. In 2002, during Israel’s invasion of Ramallah, he and four colleagues were detained by the Palestinian Authority under Israeli and U.S. pressure, accused of organizing the assassination of an Israeli minister. For four years, Sa’adat was held in Jericho Prison, guarded by British and American wardens under a U.S.-Israel agreement. In March 2006, Israeli forces stormed the prison and seized him. While imprisoned, Sa’adat has remained an active political figure. In 2013, the PFLP’s Seventh Congress unanimously re-elected him as Secretary-General. At his trial, Sa’adat refused to recognize the court’s legitimacy, declaring:

“I do not stand to defend myself before your court because I do not recognize its legitimacy… It is an extension of the illegal occupation and one of its tools to crush our people’s resistance.”
