I know - you are really busy, but yesterday there was a crucial debate in EP on platform governance

👨‍👩‍👧‍👧MEPs asked the Commission to explain what it was doing given that "studies show that the algorithm on the X platform suppresses content from some political parties while boosting others..."
Putin wants a weak and divided Europe.
Now Trump has joined him.

Their weapon: social media.

Pro-European voices are silenced.
Far-right extremists are boosted.

Europe has a weapon too, the Digital Services Act.
So why aren’t you using it, dear European Commission?

What Trump does above all is control our most precious asset: attention.

This afternoon, he will make all sorts of pronouncements - creating a frantic search among Europeans on how to react. Usually divided

It would be better if we stuck to thinking for ourselves and focusing on our own plans.

Europeans deserve safer digital spaces and real alternatives to US-based platforms.

We urge the Commission to:
- Invest in European tech initiatives.
- Support the development of user-focused, European-owned networks.
- Guarantee robust data portability rights for all users.

So much to say about this analysis - what was conflict studies really for

"Those hoping to make an impact on policy may have to accept that whispering in the ears of diplomats no longer offers a valuable way of doing so—if it ever did."

@wlacher.bsky.social & @yguichaoua.bsky.social
In the new @dissentmag.bsky.social issue, out today, @yguichaoua.bsky.social and I diagnose the crisis of conflict studies in a piece that is part intellectual history, part personal experience.

What was conflict studies for? And what can its travails tell us about how wars have changed?

Social media was supposed to expand political participation.

But often, women politicians face hate, threats, and abuse just for showing up.

After analysing 110,000+ Facebook & YouTube comments during elections in #SriLanka, we found disproportionate amounts of hate towards women.👇
