Mayor Making in Poole tonight - outgoing Mayor Pete Miles did a great job. Incoming Mayor Mark Howell has big shoes to fill, but I'm sure will be excellent. The 777th mayor of Poole, quite a portentous number.

The Populist Grift That Keeps on Giving
Trump’s insider trading scandal this week shows that right-wing populists never wanted to “drain the swamp” — they want to swim in it.

Chanced upon this wonderful website celebrating the decorative tiles of Carters Tiles, later Poole Pottery www.pooleimages.co.uk/carters-tiles
Have been seeking out treasure for the Poole Museum, and a really interesting development last night. As a Councillor, a rare good news moment. More soon

Oh we seem to have a lot more drivers making up their own rules since the pandemic in the UK too
Too many big vehicles and speeding in the US, plus markedly worse driver behavior since the pandemic.

Flooding on the River Stour at Iford Bridge. Great multi-agency working, teams from @bcpcouncil.bsky.social Social Care, Private Housing, FCERM, electrician, and partners #WiltsdorsetFRS and #EnvironmentAgency working seamlessly together. Many residents stoic about moving out, some staying put.

As a Physicist, I find this a great simple explainer.
physics of climate impacts 101:
- Stuff gets hot (worse heatwaves)
- Hot air holds more water vapor (heavier rainfall)
- Hot air is thirstier air (higher drought risk)
- Warm water is hurricane food (stronger storms)
- Hot water expands and hot ice melts (sea level rise)

Bit of snow, and everything seems to grind to a halt, but I was out there being interviewed in it by ITN about a storm 200 years ago, and it's relevance to planned flood protection on the Poole West Quays.

Disturbed last night, told by friends that CoVID was just flu. Where did this bending of history and medicine come from ? Not gullible GB News or Daily Fail fans as far as I know.

Covid-19 is not a ‘simple flu’ - Full Fact
A Facebook post calling for an investigation into the Covid-19 pandemic falsely claims the government “knew” the virus was a “simple flu”.
