applying for an MA and i am encountering the unintelligibility of ethnic categorization. if white is an ethnicity which includes everyone from polish people to romani people (descended from north india) then how might someone accurately assess that they're from 'any other white background'

it sucks because this strike is literally just a continuation of last year’s because the government forced workers to resume service instead of coming to an actual longterm resolution that balances worker protections and the evolving business model of federal mail services

this is a UK university so some of the specificity is about reparative justice with regards to victims of british colonialism but strangely they don't include... indigenous americans or australians ? 😭 also i didn't even mention the G slur used to describe romani people LMFAOOOO

in theory i assume this taxonomy is meant to discern lived experiences of privilege/offer equity to those less advantaged. but in application it hallucinates broad ethnic categories that only makes sense to a western liberal perspective. grouping all africans into one ethnicity for example is absurd
