I am teaching a PhD seminar this fall which attempts to put a decision-theoretic lens (or lenses) on research design.

So e.g., statistical decision theory, eliciting beliefs & preferences, and rational benchmarks.

Here's a draft syllabus docs.google.com/document/d/1...

This app is so cool!

ShadeMap generates shadow maps by calculating the sun's position for a given location and time of year.

It then traces a path from each map pixel toward the sun; if this path intersects an object like a building, mountain, or tree, the pixel is marked as shaded.

1st post on bsky - about bsky! I was fascinated with academic starter packs and made an interactive network to see academic communities and how they connect - a map of knowledge! link to an interactive & searchable network: ketikagarg.github.io/blueSkyAcade...

Coolest thing I've seen in a minute: hijacking mosquitoes to spread the malaria *vaccine* when they bite people

www.nature.com/articles/d41...
This malaria vaccine is delivered by a mosquito bite
Bites from insects infected with modified malaria parasites boosted immunity and stopped people from contracting the disease.
