Speaking of housing, this Little Street apartment building near MUN that the developer was unable to get approved by council with 96 units despite staff recommendation (because it needed "relief" for 16 parking spaces) can now proceed - but with 16 fewer one bed apartments and two fewer two beds.
happycity.ca
This could certainly be useful for cities and businesses, but it would also be great if it was easier for, say, the media or policy activists to take advantage of these tools to level the information playing field.

The City of St John's has stopped using Twitter but (as far as we know) has not yet decided to move to BlueSky or another "live" platform.

Some interesting analysis by @justinling.ca here. For local context:
St John's isn't on the Conservatives' list of "high cost cities".

In 2024, 41 apartment dwellings were started in the city, 25 single family homes and 14 semi detached and row houses.

One appealing feature - most of the designs offer an "accessible" option to make it easier for developers and builders to understand how to make homes that people can comfortably stay in the rest of their lives.

Interesting to see "sixplex" as a "missing middle" option - would require apartment building zoning here in St John's. What do you think of all the designs and the ideas? www.housingcatalogue.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/designs?regi...

Canada has released it's "Housing Design Catalogue" which includes 50 middle-housing designs from ADUs to six-plexes.

Each design is developed by local architecture & engineering teams to align with regional building codes, planning rules, climate zones, construction methods & materials. 🇨🇦
