It doesn't get much better than this game
Nice adjustment by Wallace by wait on Amen's shoulder-shove and leaning floater. Amen overall has had his way in that matchup.
Sheppard is good at some aspects of defense but REALLY bad at others
Cason Wallace looks like a menace tonight. OKC getting the turnover machine going to compensate for bad shooting, just like old times.
NBC broadcast sounds great so far. Tirico is a true pro. Crawford is super concise but insightful. Significant upgrade over what we had last year.
Same thing with running him off a pindown right into Amen's man at the top of the key. That won't accomplish anything.
I know Reed Sheppard looks entirely off the pace and has done throughout his NBA career to date. He is not however ever going to get with the pace if you just stand him in the opposite corner and hope a kick-out pass makes it through the wall of Thunder limbs.
I really can't wait to see Reed Sheppard with this Rockets group. If he's good, that changes everything.
We knew the Rockets spacing would be bad, but they have to generate quality post ups for KD and Sengun (plus Jabari a little) somehow. Don't know how they can get a competent half court offense going otherwise.
The Charlotte Hornets don't seem to have much of a plan. I wrote about the endlessly fascinating LaMelo Ball and whether this roster is close to any relevance: onlydownone.substack.com/p/what-is-th...
What is the Charlotte Hornets' plan?
The Hornets are in the wilderness. LaMelo Ball remains their clearest path out.

Spare a thought for Dallas fans. The 2024 Mavs are a super underrated team historically. Should've loomed as the final test for this improved Thunder team. It's too bad we won't get to see that matchup again.
Congrats to the OKC Thunder fans on here. One of my favorite and most fascinating sports teams I've watched. Decided sometime in the middle of last season that I just couldn't miss a game they played. A joy to see them win it.
Wrote about everything at stake in the NBA Finals Game 7 — the history, the legacies, and the career-defining moments.

And some thoughts on adjustments and Xs and Os: onlydownone.substack.com/p/theres-not...
There's nothing like an NBA Finals Game 7
What's at stake in the first NBA Finals Game 7 since 2016.

-Turner pick and pops and whether OKC sends a third defender
-Indiana using smaller lineups for spacing and speed
-OKC's balance of flat screens, ghost screens, and traditional P&Rs
-Whether either team gets major bench production
- OKC's fast break scoring
Some random G3 thoughts.
-Can the Pacers execute peel switches/"next" on SGA; how much do they send doubles?
-Pacers using creative plays — ie flipped screens, off ball splits — to get seals in the post for Pascal and Myles
-Is Chet comfortable on offense and making his shots
The Aaron Wiggins legacy game in the Finals is cool to see. Two confident stepback threes, that steal flying in against a Siakam post seal.
Fascinating minutes from OKC's double-big lineup. Isaiah Joe was out there, but never set his trademark flat screens. Instead, they leaned into dribble hand-offs and ball screens. Shai made some good reads and Chet hit shots. Smart coaching from Daigneault.
It's a sort of a half-zone that relies on the other players to rotate. Kenrich missed this rotation, came out soon after, and never got back in.
