An attack on Iran would not be about liberating Muslims or women. Western powers are quite happy with those people dying in huge numbers. Rather it will be about easing the way for the full ethnic cleansing of the Gaza Strip, followed in short order by the West Bank.

Trump killed US soft power by ending USAID. Annexing Greenland would mean no more bases in Europe, making the projection of military power into West Asia dependent on Europeans. On the face of it, that's good news for Palestinians, but I suspect the EU and US would still find a way to shaft them.

He could abolish Scots law, too. He might even sell us to Trump to reduce England's national debt. At the very least he will scrap the Barnett formula. Yet, as in the US, as long as the candidate is an unapologetic racist, there is a large minority of voters who will forgive his other extremism.

The CIA and Mossad know that a democratic Iran will never make peace with Israel. Their aim is therefore either to exploit the chaos of the protests to destroy the country militarily or to re-install a Shah in a pliant Gulf-style family dictatorship. Neither scenario is liberal western democracy.

I've seen various messages from prime ministers and presidents today: Iceland, Finland, Scotland, Ireland and from Presidents Obama and Biden. All kind and respectful wishing people peace and joy. Then there was one from the Trump House in Trumpsville, of which a 9 year old would have been ashamed

The problem, from Keir Starmer's perspective, with Palestine Action was that juries presented with evidence of the scale and enormity of Israeli crimes were not always willing to convict its activists of property damage.

Far too many folk's reactions to the criminalisation of pro-Palestine speech have been determined by whether they personally agree with its content rather than whether they agree with a general untrammelled government right to criminalise the expression of opinions.
