I also dont really care about Windows 11 losing local accounts because even my $200 Beelinks come with Pro and 2 of my VMs are DCs so I can "Domain join instead." Added advantage is I can make GPOs to do shit like make the right click menu useful again.

At the center of it all is a Fortigate 100F I named "EdwardFiftiHands" (my old 100D was EdwardFortiHands) and a shitload of vlans. He has 2x10 802.3 to a 16 port SFP+ switch, which has 2x10 802.3 to a "28 port" 350w 24x PoE port switch.

Since I spent a lot of time and money ubergeeking while still maintaining the most important rating of all: SAF (spousal approval factor), the lab is 3 Proxmox nodes (2x8c/16t Ryzens w 128gb ram, my 3900x [12c/24t] gaming rig with 64gb, all with 2x 10gbps SFP+ ethernet) running 19 VMs.

I know there's a lot of hate on for TP-Link, but when I use python-kasa to connect a Kasa device to that SSID, HomeAssistant's like "Hey dude, found this thing."
InternetOfCrap is a 2.4ghz ssid on a $20 router running OpenWRT bridged with a VLAN. My firewall just does DHCP, it doesn't need internal or internet access because my HomeAssistant VM is multi-homed on that same vlan.

I have HomeAssistant logging to InfluxDB which is how I get it in to Grafana. In this case, the source is a 5-for-$20 NodeMCU v2 (ESP8266) with a generic temp sensor. It also controls an RGB LED strip.

Sent my mom a link to a Grafana dashboard with the promise we'll turn on the furnace before it averages 15.
("You set your thermostat at _16_?" "We have hoodies and dogs.")

For nodes, the bbs user has no password so is only allowed to log in from the bbs vlan. It also has full access to the BBS volume. Necessary evil.

The super secure l/p user/user can log in anywhere and has read only access to the ARCHive of shit
November 6, 2025 at 5:21 AM
I use the "admin" user to get things from XFER to their final resting place on ARCH and it can only log in on the server's internal network or that 1010 management vlan.

My Netware server's "0th" nic has only tcpip bound, lives in a dmz as 10.0.28.2, "share" is the only user allowed to ftp and can create (not overwrite or read) new files or dirs under /xfer/in or read from out. This is the sandbox's only touchpoint with the real world.

The upcoming spam I went over in stream but thought I'd post it here in the hope it makes sense or is useful.

Shit DOS streamer right here, it occurred to me Oblivion/2 probably started dying at "DETECTING" because i didn't run c:\dv\dvansi before obv. It worked after testing PCBoard because my board dot bat does load dvansi. A lot of this stuff tends to break without it or ANSI.SYS

Has anyone ever livestreamed installing Oblivion/2 on twitch or will I be the first?

Yup, telnet + rlfossil + multinode is perfectly fine on real hardware.
November 4, 2025 at 3:39 AM
Damn, I seem to remember rlfossil working properly under desqview. Guess it's time to wake up The Beast and see if it's a virtual thing.

Didn't bother lugging out an old mac but system 7.5.3 under basilisk seems happy. I think we got away with it.

One of my post-migration test cases: Does PCBoard still answer telnet "call"s?
October 31, 2025 at 2:41 AM
Just used Proxmox Datacenter Manager to live migrate my new NetWare VM from a standalone N100 on to my main cluster. Downtime 28ms and it didn't miss a beat (surprising cuz virtualized NetWare is picky af)

In other news I've successfully multi-homed my NetWare server. PCNTNW_2 is my burgeoning BBS empire, PCNTNW_3 is my other retro shit. PCNTNW_1 is the only one with TCP bound so that's where you FTP. "share" is the only user allowed to log in over FTP and can only write to RETROFS_XFER:\IN
