UA was nothing like the polished private academies she’d attended under her real name. The walls bore the graffiti of rival gangs, half-scrubbed but still legible if you squinted. Cigarette butts littered the ground. She heard the distant crash of glass before she’d even stepped inside. Perfect. Ochako walked through those gates with a steady stride, chin lifted. Packs of boys leaned against the walls, some of their hair bleached, some with piercings gleaming, most with laughter sharp and cruel. “Fresh meat,” someone muttered. “Tiny guy, isn’t he?” “Looks like he’ll cry if you breathe on him.” Ochako kept walking.
