Given Danni Wyatt-Hodge's form, Gujarat Giants would be tempted to play her. In that case, Georgia Wareham may have to miss out.

Cameron Green could actually be an upgrade over Andre Russell at KKR.

Glenn Maxwell, meanwhile, doesn't seem to have registered for the #IPLAuction.

Dane van Niekerk is set to make her international comeback. She has been in good form in domestic cricket with scores of 66, 5, 67, 40, 81, 51* across six one-dayers and T20s. Hope she also restarts bowling.

The selectors have also made the right move by picking her immediately after the World Cup.

It's a big plus if everyone in the XI can contribute with the bat. But having extra bowling options - four spinners (and six bowlers) - on a spin-friendly pitch gives no real advantage. India should replace one of the spinners with a proper batter for the second Test.

These extreme pitches are clearly not helping India. They have now lost four of their last six home Tests. The last time this happened was in 1972.

Even with Harmanpreet Kaur gone and India playing one batter fewer, they have the upper hand. Smriti Mandhana should try to bat till the end.

In just three matches, the Women's World Cup has given us two contenders for the Ball of the Tournament: Amelia Kerr squaring up Phoebe Litchfield and Marufa Akter cutting Omaima Sohail in half.

India have gone in with just five bowlers. Amanjot Kaur, returning from an injury, is the fifth. It's a big gamble. Losing the toss hasn't helped either. Their three spinners may have to bowl with a wet ball.

My first introduction to Bob Simpson was through his columns in Sportstar. Always full of insights and keeping up with the times. Only later did I realise that he was a solid opener, a handy legspinner and an excellent slip fielder. And above all, an era-defining coach. Rest in peace, Simmo.
