Portraits At The Penthouse: Live in Seattle captures previously unreleased live recordings of jazz pianist Bill Evans with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Joe Hunt. Caveat: overlong running time for both sides, which will surely affect the sound quality.

By using tried-and-true chord changes with her 5-piece band she won't pick up any awards for musical innovation, but that is not her point: it is about anger, empowerment and maybe even closure.

Lamonica looks to the future (One Way Ticket) and the past (Hot August Night) in his lyrics. He is an optimist despite the current Stateside mess. The songs on Pony Tales come out swinging, not to throw a punch, but as an invitation to dance the night away.

Some knowledge of the work of Zappa and the avant-garde in general will be helpful in attempting to get a grip on this album. If that is not the case, just sit back and enjoy the expansion of one's usual musical preferences.

A 101 for creating an earworm that won't drive the listener mad after being exposed to a it for a couple of times in a row. There is a conga in the breakdown, which was unexpected, but turned to be a very welcome addition.

Imagine one note struck upon the piano. Immediately that one note is enough to change the atmosphere of the room - proving that the sound element in music is a powerful and mysterious agent, which it would be foolish to deride or belittle.
