Established in 1905 we are the oldest bowling club in Hexham, Northumberland, UK. We are a lawn bowls club who welcomes people from all backgrounds, ages and abilities to enjoy the game of bowls.
On a perfect late summer morning club members welcomed Chrysalis Hexham members and their helpers and families to give bowls a try. They all did very well. Refreshments were enjoyed afterwards in the clubhouse.

Fiona, Sandie and Marian won the ladies round robin triples competition yesterday with a +31 shot difference winning three of their four games. One end included an extraordinary 9 shot win. Seen here receiving the Norma Fazakerley trophy from club president Christina.

We went to Brampton Bowling Club (founded 1792) yesterday to take part in their annual Mixed Open Triples competition. Won all three matches. Finished second with money in our pockets. Winning team, with more ends won, captained by another club member!

The green will open for practice and roll-ups from 12 noon tomorrow Monday 7th April for the rest of the week. On Saturday it is the Armstrong Trophy, open to all members new or seasoned, 1.45 for 2.00pm. Let’s get bowling!

Nearly 113 years ago we had a visit to our club from New South Wales Bowling Club members and this plaque commemorates their visit. Imagine the time, commitment and determination needed to undertake such a trip then.

As February draws to a close work in addition to brushing and spiking has taken place including using the slitter and giving the green its first mow of the year. Roll on April.

Tomorrow’s carpet bowls match at the club has been cancelled because of the icy condition of the paths at the club and on surrounding roads. Hopefully back on again next weekend. 🥶

Conditions were right for green cutting this afternoon. Bone dry grass helped no end. While I was doing that indoors some of the lady members were making Christmas wreaths.

Following snow, heavy rain and frosts over the past week we had a window of opportunity yesterday to get the green swished and brushed. We may give it a cut at the end of the week, weather permitting.
