36 years ago today, the Pale Blue Dot picture was taken by Voyager 1, from an unprecedented distance of over 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles, 40.5 AU).
The Earth appears as less than a pixel; just a tiny dot against the vastness of space, among bands of sunlight refracted by the camera lens.

Once again, humanity has been fooled by the classic prank ”this is surely a fixed value that we can use as a unit of measurement forever” on us by the natural world around us — first a foot, then a stone, now the radius of Jupiter. When will we learn?! 🧪🔭

PRESS RELEASE:
A new study led by SETI Institute scientist Matija Ćuk suggests Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, formed from a collision between two older moons—and that this event may also be linked to the formation of Saturn’s iconic rings. 🧪 🔭

So I phone my mobile provider and an AI bot answers

AI bot: How can I help you today?

Me: I want to change my mobile data plan

AI bot: Certainly, I can help you with that. Is this for your Mobile or home internet service

Me: stupid AI. I want to talk to a person.

This is a real timelapse video of the Moon transiting in front of the Earth.

It was captured by the Artemis 1 Orion spacecraft in November 2022 while flying at it's furthest point from the Earth.
The video covers about 3.75 hours of real time. 🔭🧪

Monet’s Impression, Sunrise (1872) captured Le Havre rebuilt after the Franco-Prussian War. 🚢
Critics mocked its “unfinished” style, but some historians now read it as a symbol of France’s regeneration.

Jupiter with a 2x tele-extender (left) and 4x extender on the right. I thought 2X would be a clear winner for detail, but I'm torn. I'm also happy because I lucked out and caught the great red spot. #Astronomy #Astrophotography

Bode's Galaxy with its neighbour, the Cigar Galaxy. M81 & M82 are 12 million light years away and can be seen in the Great Bear constellation (not that they're part of it).
