I have been making portraits of folks who come to Green Wood Coalition's Art Hive in Cobourg, ON, Canada since January, 2024. Every Wednesday, Canadian Mental Health staff join their clients around the tables and make art together, drink coffee or tea and enjoy donated baked goods. Our sessions are facilitated by Port Hope artist/photographer, Lee Higginson. The atmosphere in the hive is that of a loving family reunion. I look forward to my time there every week. When I get set up at the edge of the room, I find someone who has not been painted and ask them if they'd like their portrait done. Last Wednesday, a young lady whose portrait I painted last year, brought her friend M-j over to me, suggesting I paint her portrait. How could you not want to paint this lady's portrait!!???
