🧠 Today, for #WorldMentalHealthDay, we sound the alarm that the mental health of people living with HIV is heavily affected by stigma, often leading to discrimination, abuse, avoidance of healthcare services, and poorer HRQoL.

Action is needed; read more in our Good Practices: tinyurl.com/yj9nt383

The #UNAIDS #UNGA side-event on people-centred primary care reminded us that vertical care models are not enough: integration is necessary for dignified, accessible, sustainable care. For people living and ageing with HIV, the inclusion of NCDs & MH in their care is crucial.
hivoutcomes.bsky.social
Proposals to phase out #UNAIDS by 2026 are threatening decades of progress. With 40 million people living with HIV globally and funding certainty eroding, UNAIDS leadership is vital. There is no time for complacency – the EU must step up to ensure a strong HIV/AIDS response and meet the 2030 goal.

People living with HIV are 2x more likely to develop CVDs and have a 50% higher risk of heart attack. 🫀

The upcoming #EUCardiovascularPlan must recognise and address HIV as a risk factor – read more in our response to the call for evidence: shorturl.at/ERHFV.

Our response to the @ec.europa.eu’s consultation on the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan calls for action in 6 key areas important for people living with HIV: 🩺 healthcare, 🕰️ long-term care, 🏥 access to services, 🧑‍🧒 social protection, ♀gender equality, and 💼 work conditions.

☀️ Summer is over – what have we got in store?

We're prepping for #EACS2025, to host a HRQoL meeting, and to mark #WorldAIDSDay with a @europarl.europa.eu discussion on gender-informed realities of living w/ HIV across the lifespan.

And don't forget to submit your good practices! shorturl.at/rHyNo

For some people living with HIV, stigma can negatively impact:

🏥💊seeking treatment & attending health appointments
💕relationships
🧠mental health & seeking support for it

This doesn't need to happen. Learn more about what we do to tackle this:

BBC News featured HIV Outcomes UK report, ‘HIV Services at the Crossroads.’

Cutting funding for voluntary services impedes our efforts to end the HIV epidemic by 2030. We cannot allow this trend to continue.

People have been living and ageing with HIV for decades. There is a strong, global HIV community which, at this perilous time, must:

1. Together, make sure there is a future for all people living with HIV
2. Reconnect as a global community
3. Make allies across countries, sectors and organisations

A very touching webinar with EATG spotlighted several initiatives to ensure healthy ageing with HIV.

Better communication between patients and clinicians, such as through #PROMs, would help clinicians understand the priorities of people living with HIV, especially the impact of stigma.

Reminder to register to Monday’s webinar! Empowering ageing and older people living with HIV: enduring gaps and emerging opportunities.

EATG has put together a really excellent panel, so make sure to tune in at 16:00 CEST.

Great roundtable with EACS at the European Parliament.

Europe needs a more unified HIV response, with quality of life, ageing with dignity, mental health and freedom from stigma at its heart.

We've submitted evidence to @ec.europa.eu's LGBTIQ equality strategy 🏳️‍🌈 shorturl.at/c242S

LGBTIQ+ communities are key pillars in the HIV response. We need the Strategy to:
🚫 Address stigma + discrimination
🩺 Promote #HRQoL
🧑‍🧒 Support long-term care
📉 Collect more data
🤝 Involve + sustain communities

📢 📢 Looking ahead, the second half of 2025 will be busy. The global HIV response demands unity, persistence, and strong advocacy from the community.

With #EACS25 and #WorldAIDSDay approaching, we will be fully engaged — driving change and working towards a HRQoL for all people living with HIV.

Thank you for sharing @doitldn.bsky.social - the situation is really critical as the voluntary sector tackles stark health inequalities often overlooked by mainstream services.

⏭️ What’s next?

There's a wide variety of PROMs tools available—but also a lack of consensus on what to measure + how to embed this into routine care.

Our members are working to build agreement on what matters most to measure and how PROMs can be meaningfully integrated into HIV care pathways.
