"The rocks that the glacier sits on impact the way it behaves, the heat that’s coming through the crust impacts the way that glacier behaves."

The best part about our icy research is sharing it!
Our calls with schools were certainly a highlight of the Denman Marine Voyage!

Finishing the #Denman Marine Voyage with more outreach

I invited students from my old high school in Northern Germany to come on a virtual tour of RSV Nuyina. Through the @antarcticsciaus.bsky.social school outreach program, 96 year 11 students learned about the science we do on DMV: 🌊🧊🇦🇶🧪🦭🌡️🐙☁️

As the #DMV reaches its final days in #Antarctica, the last rock dredges are underway.

This one retrieved "just three rocks, but all the same so that is very good!" - @hochmuth.bsky.social, pictured with Jo Whittaker.

The major role of phytoplankton in reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is well established, yet the factors controlling phytoplankton growth are still not fully understood.

The #DMV is a great opportunity to learn more, write Pauline Latour and team ⬇️ #blog

Yesterday was our last day in the sea ice. I was really lucky to have experienced this amazing landscape with its adorable wildlife in the last weeks. We had a very successful science program in areas of East Antarctica never studied before 🌊 🧪

Goodbye Antarctica 👋🇦🇶🐧

🛰️ Seen from space: our satellite mapper Pat Wongpan @utas.edu.au found RSV Nuyina and the Denman Marine Voyage #DMV on 10 April near Shackleton Ice Shelf in East #Antarctica. Using Landsat-8 imagery, he identified Nuyina from its track through the sea ice, reddish colour and 160.3 m length.
