In the end we can discuss money and taxes but if you have a nice city to live and a good young core you will attract the older free agents who want to win that have already made their money. This core will bring that without having to give up young players for filler. Just my opinion.

Powerplay even if they still had 20% success can improve. Positives. FO's was 61.5% while being below 40% for first 2 games. More importantly Dach and Newhook were both at 57.1%. Glass half full or half empty.

Everyone lets all breath in and out. Enjoy what looks like a very good team growing

Exactly. There will be turn over by need and good guys get traded but does not make them guys to pull against.
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Agree. Development was week in ahl, and throughout. Can’t blame only NHL coach
hockeymetal.bsky.social
The last 3 years got better but to little to late. 2019 with Caufield - Struble; 2020 with Guhle -Dobes and Tuch a prospect; 2021 Mailloux became Bolduc - Kapanen and potential prospects such as Roy, Kostenko etc. Drafting purely by need and size hurt the early years.

liked seeing most of the guys focus on speed and strength and right guys gaining muscle. Official site does not show Guhle and Laine 10 lbs heavier and guys like Suzuki and Arber 5 lbs lighter for example. General theme was speed this summer.

Another way to look at it is young players are tradeable for future picks which allows restocking for a longer run than the normal window for these situations. Managing the cap with young talented players on entry level and trading established young players coveted is a nice place to be.

all 4 lines have the potential to contribute which will be fun to watch evolve. Having 6 20+ goal scorers with support is one of the hard things for contenders, which seems in place. We can evaluate this after 20 games.
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Worse goalie can be elite but team in front can be bad. That is a terrible approach to this discussion.
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Right on. This a very good team. 4 lines deep and 3 d pairings deep. Many young guys in the wings. Why complain about any player at this stage. Only gap we have is on faceoffs that can be addressed internally or with deadline trade. Breath in and out for the fans
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Yes when I refer to 20 goals it means 20+. Generally need 6 prorated on 82 games to have the ingredients for playoffs but of course need the support players as well. His potential is definitly higher as you point out.

Looking like a great addition. Addresses a 20 goal scorer missing. Subtle but many do not realize we were short 1 20 goal scorer last playoffs
hockeymetal.bsky.social
is there an ancher on that line?
hockeymetal.bsky.social
good to highlight this. I think what is forgotten was the D was so bad that the arrival of Carrier helped last year and now he is on third pairing. Now have mobility on all 3 pairings and everyone is back in the right place.
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Good to remind everyone he is a good D. With Dobson arrival everyone is in the right place. 3 Pairings deep and everyone forgets that Matheson was always a good player before he arrived. Just because you give him penalty killing duties does not make him less effective on offence.
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Habs looked good playing and very encouraging but FO’s not so good.
hockeymetal.bsky.social
39% on faceoffs will catch up to you eventually. Something to improve on.
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Yep, overall good except for faceoffs with Dach and Newhook
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Still concerned with faceoffs for dach and Newhook but to be clear not on skill or talent
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Leafs top end talent elite but if you are taking Habs scraps you lack depth. That said Domi, Primeau and Blais will be motivated to show habs made a mistake :)
Only one game so everyone breath in and out no matter the result.

Interesting to see how 10 lbs of muscle improves his style of play. Went from 202 to 213 this year. He was pretty strong at 202.

Anderson-Evans-Laine Size, Speed and skill. (226, 189, 218) Evans, Anderson defencive awareness.
Newhook-Kapanen-Demidov: Alot of speed and skill that can be exploited.
Bolduc-Dach-Gallagher: Banging style.
This is a well balanced team.
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Disagree. Carrier arrival in top 4 turned season around. Now 3rd pairing where he belongs and total mobility better. Savard had lost mobility. Dvorak not a good skater. This team is faster for all lines and D
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Out: Dvorak 190lbs 12g slow skater, Armia 216lbs 11g, Heinemen 198 10g out
In: Bolduc 198 19g and only 22, Kapenen 192, Full year Demidov 188, Healthy Dach 216, Laine back to former weight 218, Veleno 206 and did well on FO this pre season.
Faster and added goals and better support by D
hockeymetal.bsky.social
Subtleties that are not discussed enough.
Carrier arrival was a top 4 D man and helped turn season around. He is now 3rd pairing. Mobility from D will be powerful with an extra year from Hutson and addition of Dobson.
