Yeah exactly. I've come to believe that "stupidity" is an intersection of attitudes, beliefs, and feelings. I've met people with profoundly disabled wetware who were still curious and thoughtful & much much more of the opposite.

an 8th grade science teacher in a similar situation tried to embarrass me by making me teach the rest of the class the chapter he was CERTAIN i hadn't read front to back before laying my head down & when i did he got red faced & took me out to the hall to say "you use knowledge to hurt ppl 😡"

i got the highest score on the AP English exam in my county & the highest score on the History exam in my entire class and i can't remember the specifics but i showed up to each some combination of sick/hungover/stoned/running on zero sleep. we don't ALL have to be scholars! u don't have to fake it~

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.

This also tracks with how I feel about intelligence. I think people are correct when they say IQ is a concept rooted in racism and cognition is complicated and deals with much more than academic success but that's always fallen flat for me because it fails to explain a thing I think we all sense

I don't believe in p-zombies or NPCs but I do believe in sleepwalkers, not as in literally people who are ambulatory while sleeping but rather people who don't want to know more about the world, who veer away like water over a stone in the face of challenge, who socialize as a hormonal status game
