After #SfN25 it's great to be home in San Antonio just in time for #ABRCMS2025! Excited for the opportunity to talk a little bit about my research on common blood pressure drugs and Alzheimer's disease Thursday at 10:45am in 214B!

PLCG2 mutations are associated with Alzheimer's disease. Find out how PLCG2 is involved in response to peripheral inflammation from PhD student Eduardo Gutierrez Kuri at #SfN25 poster I6 this afternoon!

We and others see that calcium channel blockers are anti-inflammatory. So what do Cav1.2 and Cav1.3 do on microglia? Find out at PhD student Brinda Palliyana's #SfN25 poster right now at LBP091!

science communication for a lay audience is so important. "so imagine that a normal microglia is like a Furby, and a rod microglia is like a long Furby."

Congratulations to Dr. Caitlyn Fastenau @caitlynfastenau.bsky.social on a superstar dissertation defense today! It's been a joy to mentor her through her exciting discoveries related to glycobiology in Alzheimer's disease.

Running the PREP program at UTHSCSA for the last two years has felt like the biggest impact I've ever had in science. It has been a joy. And now it's gone.
Another terrible day for young scientists. The NIH just sent termination notices for the MARC, PREP, IMSD, IRACDA and Bridges programs.

Hey @nirenberg.net it would be great to see San Antonio support its researchers!
The City of Boston is leading 40+ mayors, cities, and counties in an amicus brief against the Trump Administration's drastic and illegal cuts to federal research funding—cuts that will lead to immediate job losses nationwide.

This is a devastating loss.
On Feb 15, a critical line of defense was eliminated: the CDC's Laboratory Leadership Service (LLS). This program trained highly skilled scientists to be "disease detectives," deploying them to respond to public health threats & test for everything from viruses to toxins.
