So I was wondering whether there actually were such a creature, and whether it would be possible to devise a diet to avoid its doom. Gases and liquids can escape a body more easily, so a diet with no SOLID residue, neither by day nor by night, nor indoors nor outdoors, ...

stg sometimes asking a question on the Internet is worse than bargaining with the Fair Folk in the amount of careful specification needed. Demodex was (erroneously) thought to have no way to shit SOLID excrement, and therefore that said shit would build up until the creature starved....

... I am wondering whether such creatures exist without injury, and whether a residueless diet exists & could keep them alive, and if so, whether they might have a much longer lifespan or some other weird effect.

No, that's not what I was referring to. Until recently, Demodex (little skin mites) were thought to have no anus, so they'd simply fill with feces until they died (no room to consume & digest food). ...

All that is interesting, but I worded it as "mouth" and "lack a way to excrete feces" for a reason. The Ediacaran fans and modern fungi and such lack a mouth. The ones that regurgitate feces can excrete, just not with a dedicated (or re-creatable) orifice. I'm wondering about the shit-buildup case.

Are there animals that have a mouth but lack a way to excrete feces, so when they're full of shit, they die? Leave aside the obvious jokes or prayers, PLEASE. (Not Demodex, BTW.) Could such an animal have a residue-less diet? If so, I wonder what would happen.

"Kip Williams sort of liked your post".

@kipwilliams.bsky.social‬, you are nothing if not generous.

If it's the Keith I'm remembering, surname determinism has claimed him.

Google suggests dimorphodons with no "t"?

Three-dimensional? Isn't that unusual and likely to be useful?

They mention some soft-tissue preservation, so is it Lagerstätte too?

Nothing substantive, just that "red-shifted" is an interesting intersection of politics and electromagnetic physics.

Not a lot on a cosmic scale. How about that Ganymede, eh?

Ieyasu. Kun. Tokugawa Ieyasu. Kun. Massive battles when he seized control of Japan, tens of thousands killed, with maybe 10,000 dying in fire at the end. Who's next, Genghis Chan?

But only for a week. Sic transit glorious muddy.

"Or is it Menchaca?", I ask, cackling evilly.

Don't forget Burnet and Manor (and therefore Burnet Rd and Manor Rd).

I finally had a Blinding Flash of the Obvious and checked the alt text. "A small brown lizard, maybe a skink, on the hood of a car". And then I noticed that the end of a windshield wiper is on the far left. We see the hood top edge + the bottom of the windshield, looking into the trench(?) there.

I'm mildly curious: is there a pattern to when footnotes are clickable links versus plain text?

Alpennian characters going there? If so, quite a gem!

There were those who said that using the name "King Charles III" was a bad omen. Turns out that nobody specified for whom.

Probably many of us who know of Ursula had the exact same instant reaction.

Other than hair & poop, any other interesting defense mechanisms? Is the walking on water interesting?

Who am I to diss an "e"?
