One week ago: Trump told farmers that China was coming back to buy soybeans.

Today: He canceled the Xi meeting and is threatening massive new tariffs.

Trump lied. Again. And farmers get crushed. Again.
This isn't governing — it's arson.

And the president is holding the match.

Treasury finalized the $20B Argentina deal yesterday — exactly as proposed.

They heard farm country's concerns about bailing out a competitor stealing our soybean markets.

Then they doubled down anyway. No changes. No second thoughts.

Your feedback was noted. Just ignored.

Rural America relies on the affordable health care tax credits that are expiring. Republicans don’t care.

Grocery prices are up 30%, meaning more people are struggling to put food on their table.

Instead of finding ways to support our neighbors, the Trump admin canceled 94 million lbs of food aid to food banks — 67 million eggs, 27 million lbs of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk.
Trump Canceled 94 Million Pounds of Food Aid. Here’s What Never Arrived.
ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cut...

The GOP isn’t fighting for rural communities and small businesses. Their shutdown will spike rural health care costs, and in Pennsylvania, many people will pay $750 more each month.

Farmers are already struggling due to tariffs. Why are you making it worse?

After watching their market completely collapse, American soybean farmers turned on the news this week to watch Trump give $20 billion to one of their top competitors, Argentina.

This is not what supporting American farmers looks like.

In case you're curious how much your monthly premiums will increase because of the Republican shutdown...

Not only are rural communities seeing their hospitals shut down because of the Big Ugly Bill, but they're also going to see their premiums increase by 90% thanks to the Republican shutdown.

When the Trump admin's policies are so bad that Cabinet secretaries are texting each other like "Wait, are we destroying agriculture?"

Spoiler: Yes. Yes you are.

Wisconsin's Randy Roecker spent decades building his dairy farm. but Trump's trade war and pandemic debt pushed him past the breaking point. He sold his entire farm in June.

"This is what farmers have—this legacy. And that's what kills us."

To now threaten additional mass firings – in the middle of an economic crisis in farm country – is malicious and cruel and would only further the pain in farm country.

The 2018 Farm Bill created the AgWell program to support farmers' mental health.

But as Trump's trade war devastates rural communities, the USDA canceled grants for the program earlier this year — cutting mental health support exactly when farmers need it most.

Despite Republican lip service, their Big Ugly Bill cut food assistance and SNAP benefits by $187 billion.

Rather than be proved wrong, Republicans are ending the survey that would show the devastating effect of taking food away from children and seniors.

Rural communities have been the collateral damage of the Trump administration's policies over the last nine months.

Grocery prices are up while the jobs market is stagnating.

More hardship for working families due to the Trump administration’s economic and trade policies.

House Republicans continue to look the other way and wash their hands of trade policy that Congress has every right to challenge or overturn. Any self-respecting representative of farm country would stand up and fight this. Our family farmers deserve better.
Statement from Rep. Angie Craig: Rural America is hurting. Farm bankruptcies are up 95 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to last year. Farmers are facing a crisis of historic proportions as the president’s trade war pushes our largest trade partners into the arms of competitors. Harvest is approaching and our farmers have lost their markets. Where are House Republicans? Enabling and supporting the very trade policies and tariffs that are driving the rural economy into the ground. I have heard my Republican colleagues say that they are gravely concerned with the economic situation in farm country. Some go as far as to say they have never seen it this bad before – an implicit acknowledgement that the president’s trade wars are failing America’s family farmers. Yet, they continue to look the other way and wash their hands of trade policy that Congress has every right to challenge or overturn. Any self-respecting representative of farm country would stand up and fight this. Our family farmers deserve better.

Focus on lowering hunger in your own states before lecturing us about how to administer food assistance in ours. Food insecurity is an issue across our country, so let's make sure every state can provide food assistance to those who need it.

If you've noticed your grocery bill increasing, it's not your imagination. It's Trump's recklessly playing with tariffs that impact every American – from farmers to people feeding their families.
