🦀 It was already great to see the growing number of people attending the #rustlang pub/coffee meet-ups, but it's also nice to end the year on an even larger high, with another couple of great talks.

My daughter was annoyed that i generated a picture for my talk yesterday. Normally avoid AI generated images but it was a talk about vibe coding @aifortherestofus.live.

So she drew me an alternative picture. This is a software developer that has replaced their keyboard with a tab button.

EuroRust is barely over and it's time for another pair of back-to-back rustandfriends.org Edinburgh 🍻/ ☕️ Meetups!

We have these Meetups every couple of months and they are an opportunity to ask questions / share interesting stuff / meet other #rustlang folks.

It’s really cool to see what’s getting built using the components of the composable data stack like Apache Datafusion, Apache Arrow, and Apache Iceberg. Cloudflare’s R2SQL is just another example of what’s possible. Hey @columnar.tech where is the driver for this?

It's August in Edinburgh. It's busy 🏃. It's sweltering 💦. But still: there is always space for #Rustlang 🦀!

As is now usual, we have a couple of events in the same week to cater to different preferences (🍻/ ☕️). Please feel free to come to both 🙂 (details below)

Absolutely bleak article. The product managers being scolded solidifies my stance that you can’t change a company from within. Especially if you work for the devil himself.
“Bue wasn’t the victim of a robber. He had been lured to a rendezvous… She was a generative artificial intelligence chatbot named “Big sis Billie,” a variant of an earlier AI persona created by the giant social-media company Meta Platforms in collaboration with celebrity influencer Kendall Jenner.”
A flirty Meta AI bot invited a retiree to meet. He never made it home.
Impaired by a stroke, a man fell for a Meta chatbot originally created with Kendall Jenner. His death spotlights Meta’s AI rules, which let bots tell falsehoods.

Back in the 90's I remember one particular winter in Edinburgh when I was starting University, next to Pollock Halls, and my god it snowed. It was like, proper Winter Wonderland stuff. Since then? Hmmphf.

So, is it snowing less?
