AWS are extremely good at this. Partly because they have tons of cash and tons of highly skilled people. Gov has neither. Gov doing this themselves will absolutely lead to more outages than AWS doing it, and those outages will be worse, and last longer

Also, as a European, I feel the US government might want to branch into providing healthcare, schooling, transportation & all the other elements of socialism I keep hearing arent the job of government, before they branch into being an IT provider

But, govs shouldn’t be creating their own alternatives to AWS, Azure, GCP, etc - they just don’t have that kind of scale or expertise or funding or time & energy or R&D or infosec or…

But they do have WAY better things to be doing with their time, talent and energy that competing with csps

Am also onboard with govs owning/renting/managing datacentres and servers for secret and above classifications

not US gov though, they have gov cloud high already so don’t need to do this

Depends what you mean there.

I’m on board with govs having in-house IT teams administering their stuff, which should be largely commercial PaaS and SaaS + some COTS and a smaller amount of bespoke software in kube or VMware

I work at one of those companies. The efforts to train us in AI amounts to being forced to sit through truly awful ai generated 5 minute videos once a quarter

There are some marginal gains to be had from AI but also so much wishful thinking both from buyers and sellers - to the point I’m still…
