If it should help you further, they've started going out of their way with these remakes and remaster releases to make the old stories/art direction actively a little bit worse.
While in at least one case /removing/ ability to access the old version, so. We're just left with a worse canon.

Oh my word I've been playing the english patch International version so seeing your menus look like... /subtly/ different just threw me off hard.

Hardcore is /very/ much a rough experience at first because - until you get upgrades - enemies just don't take consistent enough hitstun and it's a pain.

I remember last time I poked it I was turned off because the currently active missions and lore would regularily cycle out of rotation and just be vaulted forever. Is that no longer a thing? (Was I just misinformed?)

Fully ignore. There is effectively not a single of my characters who would make a good WoL.
That being said, I would have fun making a sort of column list of 'WoLability'. Ranging from 'too weak/too soft' to 'you don't want this'.
