Canadian journalist based in Vancouver.
When I was asked to host a conversation with Canadian best selling author Louise Penny at UBC's Chan Center, my only request was she do an interview for the Sunday National. Fortunately she agreed and it was terrific. It's on tonight and then will be posted online.

Where else but Rick Mercer's Stand Up for Canada tour would you get a perfectly executed joke about Snowbird jets and the senior's discount at Shoppers Drug Mart. Great show in Vancouver tonight!

Decidedly not BlueSky in Vancouver today. This is the view downtown from 10th and Cambie at noon. About as smoky as I've ever seen in the city.

If you're looking for a great Canadian vacation spot, may I recommend Waterton Lakes National Park in southern Alberta?

Best part of a road trip is the random stops to discover things like the Brooks (Alberta) Aqueduct. Also appreciated the candid historical description at the site of the impressive but imperfect engineering behind it.

It's always nice when good news makes the headlines and the story of the missing three year old in Quebec has had, in the words of the SQ spokesperson "the best possible outcome". It is our top story on CBC News Network at 7 and 8 eastern and we expect more details from police.

Thanks to Sarah Z for telling her story. It's an important message (and it was a nice bonus to connect with a Mount Allison alum!).
I spoke with Ian Hanomansing on CBC News tonight about the largest website responsible for nonconsensual deepfake porn, my experiences being depicted on these sites, and CBC's investigation as to who is hosting this. Watch below:

This is my Dad's old typewriter. That alone makes it special. But only now have I appreciated how beautiful it is. The lines. The colour. Form and function.

"It is hard to make sense of something so senseless". Interim Vancouver Police Chief updating last night's terrible tragedy. Says 11 people killed and that number may rise. Driver has history of contact with police and mental health history. Crown has not yet laid charges.

There have been a few times when Checkup has been hammered on social media for a program we haven't done yet. I'm in a show meeting right now. The gap between what's being posted and what we're actually planning is enormous. Our regular listeners should expect the same care we use for every show.

Lots of thoughtful social media criticism of our question for Sunday's Checkup and we listened. The new question: what do you think of Trump's comments about Canada becoming the 51st state? The show's being simulcast on more than 100 NPR stations. It's a chance to make your voice heard.

I see some people are upset with our topic Checkup Sunday. With President Trump repeating his "51st state" comments, we feel it is important to talk about. Even better, for Americans to hear our voices via the NPR stations that will be simulcasting.

#flagday at Saturday morning ball hockey. Canadian jerseys are just part of it. The deeper meaning is being able to keep a friendly, competitive game going for more than thirty years, with players from a wide variety of backgrounds. Perfectly Canadian. 🇨🇦🥅💪🏾

Sunday on Checkup we're asking "How has Donald Trump's presidency changed the way you feel about being Canadian and celebrating your patriotism?" Should be a great conversation as we hear voices from across Canada. You can also reply here. I'll read some of the social media comments on the show.

From vacations to groceries to doing business...how is the Trump presidency changing your plans? What's your Plan B? That's hour one of Checkup Sunday on CBC Radio and News Network. Skip the queue if you like and reply here.
