This is really interesting. As one of my Chinese friends said, as long as you aren't interested in politics China is a great place. And the people think so. I'll say what the article doesn't, socialism is better than capitalism.

It is extremely unconventional (ie against a political convention that exists for very good reasons) for an opposition leader to make foreign policy commitments, but it can be seen as a marker of desperation from a party that is most likely never going to be in government again.
