But I did see this lovely common eider amid the sea ice in Wellfleet Harbor.

Ooph, thanks but I hope another nor’easter isn’t coming! 😅 one just finished.

Nope. These bluffs are eroding at an average rate of about 3 feet/1 meter a year. Geological processes in action…

3rd of 3: Nauset Light Beach

Part of the foundation of (probably) the French Cable Station fell into the sea in the storm.

2nd of 3: Coast Guard Beach

The Bartlett House aka the Watergate House, where the Watergate break-in was organized, was above here demolished today. Huge erosion this week sped up the need to get that done.

1st of 3 beaches: Newcomb Hollow: lots of erosion, exposed clay, and undercutting of bluff.

Took a walk to see the erosion caused by Winter Storm Gianna, which is still causing some decent surf.

Will share erosion pics below…

Surely you didn’t think I’d make it to lunchtime during a nor’easter without another #OceanDevotion?!

Good morning! I took these as the nor’easter was just beginning. (In the second part, you can hear the sand blasting my coat.)

Sorry folks for no #OceanDevotion today.

Book deadline for @weboflifebooks.bsky.social
… but I just poured myself a glass of bubbly. 🥂

That means it’s done! 20 months of research, design, and painstaking illustration. (Looking forward to my 1st day off in a long time tomorrow!)

Sea surface temperatures across the northern Atlantic were still warmer than any years since the mid-1800s in December, but they remain well below their recent peak... a good reminder of both climate change and variability.
