It was more the audience screaming 'give me more.' Empire had loose ends, but it could be tied up as a bittersweet conclusion.
The Prequels and the Sequels... they left without that feeling of a satisfying conclusion. They let you know there was no wrap at the end, and left knowing there was more.

The thing that made the original Star Wars trilogy interesting, beyond the revolutionary FX and sets and everything they did to make it happen on a crapshoot budget? Every single movie had a definitive end. There was a very minimal 'to be continued' feel.

It's kinda funny that conservatives who are always yelling "free speech mean free speech" and thinks that saying abhorrent things shouldn't cost you personally or professionally are now saying "Free Speech comes with responsibility and you have to face consequences if someone doesn't like it.'
