Host of the Fabulous Folklore podcast/blog. Researcher & writer for hire. Gothic author. Crafter. PhD in haunted house films.

For the new followers, I'm a Geordie folklorist with a love for ghosts, cemeteries, and plant lore, host of the Fabulous Folklore podcast, avid crafter, former ghost hunter, lecturer in film and design, and holder of a PhD in haunted house films. Apparently I also hate free time.
The way the news is going on about Budget Eve made me wonder if I'd missed a folk tradition.

I'm getting really tired of "book marketing experts" sending emails full of breathless praise about my books before asking if I want to hear their promo plan... You would think if they'd been as thorough as they say they have, they would've noticed the books have publishers who handle promo?

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, there is a saying that you can predict the number of snow storms based on the date of the first snowfall.

So here in Newcastle, we had snow on the 19th, meaning 19 more snowstorms before the end of winter!

It's snowing. Seems a tad early this year.

It's Bonfire Night here in the UK. G. C. Moore Smith, related a popular Bonfire Night rhyme in Birmingham in 1919.

'Bonfire night!
The moon shines bright.
Forty little angels dressed in white.
Can you eat a biscuit?
Can you smoke a pipe?
Can you go a-courting
At ten o'clock at night?'

If you see a group of crows flying low, it means illness is on the way. A crow that flies over a house and calls three times is letting you know there will be a death in the family. But if a crow calls in the morning before any other bird sings, it means rain is on the way.

Today is All Souls' Day, which marks remembrance of the dearly departed. Given it's a day dedicated to the dead, I thought it would be a great time to hear more unnerving and uncanny experiences from listeners of Fabulous Folklore...
