▶ Financial support is available but candidate countries have to ensure they have enough capacity to absorb the funds.

After returning to Chișinău, we talked about the outcome of the elections with Austrian Ambassador Stella Avallone and Dr. Brigitta Triebel from KAS Moldova .

▶ Europe must prepare societies for enlargement
▶ Gradual and/or sectoral integration might be a possibility but may also threaten to undermine EU accession
▶ The next MFF in 2028 should take into account the possibility that candidate countries may be ready to join the EU

(5/8)
idmvienna.bsky.social
Here are some of our conclusions:
▶ There needs to be more exchange of think tanks between the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe.
▶ The EU has to find a way to ensure that Member States do not hinder candidate countries’ accession by vetoing negotiations.

(4/8)

We discussed the immediate challenges of EU enlargement and instruments of pre-accession assistance as well as the role of Central Europe in supporting candidate countries.

Rebecca Thorne and @sschaeffer.bsky.social, in front of the Moldovan Parliament, highlight the role of these elections and the issues for the future.

idmvienna.bsky.social
Once again, the parliamentary elections in Moldova have outlined the deep division between pro-European and pro-Russian factions, while public frustration over domestic issues is growing.

The main question now : will both Moldova and the EU be ready for full membership in the coming years ?
idmvienna.bsky.social
Moldova has voted. The pro-european PAS party has won a surprise majority, giving them the power to push the reforms forward, especially toward EU membership.
